Building Up
You can build up the church of Christ. You can do it by preaching, or maybe being a missionary, or song leading. You can actually build a church to help build the church community. My father is a missionary who humbly serves God by helping to build up the church. He goes into Tanzania to do mission work, and he helps at a school of preaching.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:9b-11, Paul tells us to build up one another. (E.S.V.) “9b the Lord Jesus Christ 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are.”. So, what are some ways we can build up the church at home? We can teach the Bible in our home congregations. We can also be good listeners and doers. We can work together as one body to accomplish difficult jobs. We can encourage each other when things seem hard.
In Ezra 3:1-2 the people of Israel rebuild an altar in the house of God (N.K.J.) “And when the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem. Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.” They saw a difficult task ahead and the people worked together as one man. What if they saw it was too difficult and did not do it? There would be no altar so they could not complete the sacrifices to God. They encouraged each other and worked faithfully until they got it done.
We can use this example in our lives today. When we have a difficult task to do alone, we can ask for help. We can work happily together and build up the church and each other.
